Spiritual Stone-Bothering School

Spiritual Stone-Bothering is my way of describing a practice of meeting stones, sacred sites and landscapes as living beings – and letting that encounter work back into our inner life.

It is:

• rooted in Goethean / phenomenological perception

• informed by the Western Mysteries and years of work at Scottish sacred sites

• gentle, non-dogmatic and experiential rather than theoretical

This school is for a small group of people who want to deepen their relationship with land and mystery, and who sense that real change begins with transformed perception.

This flagship journey is for you if:

• you feel drawn to stone circles, megaliths, old chapels, wild coasts, but are tired of shallow “Celtic spirituality” and tourism

• you are involved in ecology, rewilding, permaculture, community projects or education, and sense a missing inner / spiritual dimension

• you come from Goethean, anthroposophical or related backgrounds and want to live this work in real places, not only in books and concepts

• you are simply a sensitive person who longs for a deep, intelligent, carefully held encounter with Scotland’s sacred landscapes

Phase 1 – Foundations (online)
Starting November 2026
Four evening sessions introducing the core gesture of Spiritual Stone-Bothering, basic Goethean perception work, and practice with a “home stone” or local place where you live.

Phase 2 – Residential intensive (Mull & Iona)
Around Easter, April
A week-long immersion at Achaban House on Mull, with daily visits to stones, shorelines and quiet places on Mull and Iona, combining field exercises, inner work, rest and shared evening hearth-time.

Phase 3 – Integration (online)
Closing by May
Two follow-up sessions to help you weave the experience back into your everyday life and work.

We’ll be based for the residential week at Achaban House on the Ross of Mull, a short walk from the ferry to Iona.

• Comfortable single and twin / double rooms

• Fully catered: nourishing, home-cooked meals with a vegetarian option at every meal, plus the possibility of local, ethically sourced meat for those who wish

• Tea, coffee and simple snacks available throughout the day

Participants normally make their own way to Mull (to Oban and then by ferry to the island).

For those who prefer a more supported journey, I plan to offer an optional group pickup from Edinburgh Airport with a minibus and return at the end of the retreat.
