Community of the Western Mysteries on the Hebridean island of Lewis

The vision

To build a center of the Western Mysteries in a suitable location now. From purchasing the land to full realization of the project in 10 years. The goal is to create a spiritual center for research and teaching, but also for life practice (community) in the environment of western nature, in the immediate vicinity of the stone circles of Callanish, in the northwestern tip of Europe, to create a place for the essence of the Western Mysteries to be experienced, studied, and conveyed.

The vision is currently still strongly tied to us, Renatus and Charlot. After living in Scotland for almost 6 years, we have experienced what it is all about and we were already close to realizing the vision. The experience of having to leave Leob Croft and not being able to manifest the dream there strengthened our will and clarified the vision. Now we want to get started! Slowly but surely. 

We still receive weekly requests from groups and individuals asking if they can join us for training, excursions, tips, advice, to be able to participate, to be able to live with us - for a short break or longer. This means that the community we dream of and the income for what we want to create is already there. All that is missing is the location. The interest, indeed the need, seems to be there. Over time, this vision will be able to become more independent of us thanks to these people. But it needs us now to start it.

This newsletter is being reaches roughly by 500 people. About 100 solus read it thouroughly. Which is, a lot! A steady stream of replies and thanks testifies to this. So far it has always been a free offering because I believe that giving and taking find a balance when you trust in the power of the spirit. Now we are building on this power and ask you: Do you want to join in? Do you want to take on co-responsibility? Are you as connected as we are that you want to be an enabler?

The plan

Phase 1: Secure land. We need £40,000 to buy “Croft Dalmore 5”. This is a 17-hectare site (of which only 1.5 hectares is good land, the rest is hill grazing) directly on the beach at Dalmore in a valley facing north-west. Currently there is no building, but there is building permission (there is an old stone house ruin). When Dirk Kruse and I visited the Dalmore beach for the first time in 2016, we both, as well as other participants of the summer school, had the convincing feeling that this was the place where heaven comes to earth, or where heaven (as well as Atlantis) ends and gently permeates into the earth (present day). There is always something new and good stranding here. At the Mini-Summer School 2024, at midsummer, 7 participants accompanied Renatus to see the land. Renatus told them openly about our vision. There was a joyful, supportive, affirmative atmosphere. We just received an email from the agency stating that the price of 50 thousand has gone down again. The Croft is calling us!

Interim period until phase 2: Every summer, open to everyone, to be there, to work together, to share, to take and to give. Community building. Community life. Summer schools are initially held there with tents. Setting up the vegetable garden, buying and setting up a foil tunnel, planting trees, buying a shipping container for storing the tents, equipment, etc.

Phase 2: Rebuilding and renovating the old Croft house as a community room and hostel. Building a new family/tenants.

Interim period, as usual, the movement grows and matures into a fluid camp, a 2-month (permanent) summer school in researching, practicing, and envisioning the Western Mysteries.

Phase 3: A family lives there permanently. Others join temporarily until further permanent or mobile accommodation adapted to all seasons of the Hebrides are established.

Phase 4: Three families or crofting parties form the permanent community on site which prepares and maintains the place. Other people come and go for times of learning and experiencing and helping to shape it, from week-long stays to taking part in the 1-year training in perception and training in the Western Mysteries.

Phase 5: The small community is established, and the property (land) is transferred to a non-profit trust (or cooperative).

The deed

You want to get involved? How is that possible and what does that mean? First of all, we need start-up capital, i.e., the £40,000 must be raised over the next few weeks. We have set up a fundraising campaign for this. Here is the link:

You can donate as much as you like, with your name or anonymously. If the amount is raised, an offer can be made to the seller via a lawyer. If it is accepted, the croft can only be bought by a private individual (that is the Scottish crofting law). The Crofting Commission can veto the purchase if it does not like the business plan. If it approves the purchase, the croft will legally belong to the Derbidges. If we reach phase 4, i.e., the community is strong enough to keep the project alive independently of the founders, the land will be donated to a non-profit cooperative (or trust). It is important for you to bear in mind that your donation is initially a private donation at this point. Unconditionally. Trusting in our vision - to help it come into the world. But what will ultimately come of it, only time will tell. We try to be open and also to converse with the place, as with all participants, supporters and interested parties of this project let it unfold carefully.

Why support us?

- that there is a spiritual, anthroposophical center in the west of Europe, on the Hebrides.

- that land is cultivated biodynamically there.

- that Renatus and Charlot (with children) can do what they came to earth to do.

- that the Western Mysteries are researched (on site!)

- that summer schools can continue to take place, true to the original ideal.

- that there can be people near the important Callanish Stones who "guard" the stones and decipher their future impulses for humanity.

- that there is a center that spiritually connects the West with Central Europe and other spiritual centers throughout Europe and the world and strengthens important axes of energy (such as the Hebrides, Central Europe, Black Sea region).

- that a learning and living community can emerge that tests the new (Western) in practice in life.

- that spiritual beings and good companions of humanity who belong to the Western Mysteries find a place to "land".

- that a place can be created where people who belong to the Western Mysteries and are having a hard time today, who have become homeless in this world, can still have a place of home in this world that they can always go to. 

- that people who are looking for the Western Mysteries can find a place where they can get to know it.

In short, because you are convinced that this place is needed, and we are the right people to get this started. Maybe you don't even have to be convinced, but you're curious and just excited again and hope that something good will come out of it. Support is unconditional, i.e. there is nothing in return. But you are welcome to visit and co-create at any time. However, it would be nice if you, as a donor, regardless of the amount, would like to become part of a sponsoring association that wants to continue to support the vision.
